Week 1
Because I have just started I am still in the process of learning all the students’ names and getting comfortable in the classroom. Mrs. Laconte introduced me to the students as Miss. O’Neil, but they have gotten used to calling me Miss O. Now I am mostly just observing how the classroom is operated and the daily routines. Every day I have been helping Mrs. Laconte by putting all of the students’ “mail” and papers in their “mailboxes” for them to later get and bring home. Also, I have been passing out their “home folders” and going around the classroom to check that they have written their homework correctly every day. Another activity I did this week was I read a short story to the class as a practice for a longer story which I will be reading next week. On Thursday, I helped the students prepare a bingo game of their classmates’ names which they played on Friday.
Week 2
This week I got to try more student interaction, as I have become more comfortable in the classroom. I have learned the daily routines of the teacher and developed my own routine of my every day responsibilities. I did a “read-a-loud”, reading a story focusing on this week’s lesson of space. Also I got the privilege of doing a one on one reading practice with a student. On Tuesday I helped Mrs. Laconte by using the children’s artwork to create the bulletin board outside of her classroom. I still perform my daily duties of helping pass out papers, home folders and checking the student’s daily recordings of their homework assignments.
help them with their daily assignments and assist them with their spelling when I write a word the don’t know how to spell in their spelling books so they can have it for future reference, help kids with computers in computer lab

Randy Behavior’s poem “Both of Me” shows the duality of the Apollonian and Dionysian sides of humans that was apparent in Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Behavior writes in the first 4 lines of his poem, “There are two sides to me, they battle here for supremacy, one mindful and mannered, the other ripe and reinvented,” implying that he is torn between the Apollonian and Dionysian principles. One side of him has the traditional Apollonian traits: reserve, reason, and thought. The other side of him is more like a Dionysian: chaotic, emotional, and sensual. Behavior writes further on in the poem, “Now under your gaze, ashamed, I want to hide this wanton girl away” proving that when he is conflicted between these two personalities he is embarrassed by himself and wants to hide one of his sides. By hiding one of these personalities he feels he can become a person with a single personality. This can be easily related to the part of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when Jekyll is conflicted between himself and Hyde. At this point he is unsure of who he wants to be and struggles to decide which personality to keep and which to discard.
Both of Me by Randy Behavior

There are two sides to me
They battle here for supremacy
One mindful and mannered
The other ripe and reinvented
Happy to be the rangier me
When in, non-coincidence we collide
A delightful game of flirt and flavor
Playing with words and dreaming of skin
But when knowing replaces meeting
Now under your gaze, ashamed
I want to hide this wanton girl away
Search for the purity gone astray
Or would your rather dance with us
Weaving the seeker with the nymph
The educated to the inquisitive
A twirling kaleidoscope of you and we
Perhaps a Tango made for three?

The picture of the Earth being taken over by flame represents the balance between chaos and order of Apollo and Dionysus. In Greek mythology, Apollo and Dionysus were both sons of Zeus, Apollo being the god of the sun, order, music, and poetry, and Dionysus being the god of wine, ecstasy, intoxication, and chaos. The Apollonian principles also suggest beauty as opposed to the Dionysian principles which suggest destruction. The picture accurately portrays the differences between the view of an Apollonian and a Dionysian because half of the Earth is destroyed while the other half remains relatively unharmed. Another theme that can be derived from the picture is light versus darkness. On the far left of the picture (the Apollonian side) there is a sun creating light behind the untouched side of the Earth. On the right hand side, there is a moon and darkness overshadowing the destruction of the hemisphere. Although the gods Apollo and Dionysus never considered each other rivals, many of their principles and ideas overlap each other’s and as seen in the picture, they differ greatly.
Apollo: sun, ego, psyche, stoic, mind, reason, thinking, order, restraint, male, hierarchy, science, system, compulsiveness, city, classicism, civilization.

Dionysus: Earth, Id, eros, Epicurean, heart, emotion, feeling, chaos, excess, female, equality, art, spontaneity, impulsiveness, country, romanticism, nature

The movie Spiderman 3, symbolizes the Apollonian and Dionysian characters. The character of Spiderman displays his usual role as a city hero and positive public figure. This side of Spiderman is the Apollonian side; his negative Dionysian side emerges after a meteorite crashes near him. The meteorite crash causes symbiote to attach to Peter (Spiderman) and later brings out the darker, more selfish, indulgent, carefree side of him. This symbiote attachment results in Peter’s Spiderman costume changing to black to represent the Dionysian within him. He begins to do bad deeds instead of good, and hurt people around him. His rage overtakes him and causes him to emotionally and physically hurt his enemies, and even his closest allies. Peter undergoes changes throughout the course of the film from the red, ordinary, Spiderman into the black character of “Venom”. These changes are quite similar to the changes made by the main character in The Curious Incident of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; Dr. Jekyll is similar to the red Spiderman, and Mr. Hyde is comparable to Venom. Dr. Jekyll also undergoes bodily changes into a more wicked and sinful character. As Spiderman is Venom, he feels more powerful and stronger, As does Dr. Jekyll when he is embodied by the role of Mr. Hyde.

Song

The song, What was I Thinking, by Dierks Bentley represents both Apollonian and Dionysian traits. In the song, the narrator is thinking irrationally; he only cares about intimate time with Becky, regardless of the consequences. Like a Dionysian, he is thinking based on pleasure, sensuous enjoyment, carelessness, and without reason. He seeks pleasure and sensuous enjoyment, by spending time with Becky. Bentley says, “I was thinking ‘bout a little white tank top sitting right there in the middle by me I was thinking about a long kiss.” Along with seeking sensuous enjoyment and pleasure, this is also careless and thinking without reason. Becky’s father is protective, has a criminal record, and is ready to shoot anyone down who comes after Becky. Bentley makes a big mistake, sneaking Becky out to spend time with her. He now has to face the consequences of Becky’s father.
Although Bentley is clearly predominately Dionysian, his Apollonian side is also embodied through the song. Bentley says, “Oh I knew there’d be Hell to pay,” and questions his actions, “What was I thinking?” This is Apollonian, because he starts to think logically, realizing that his actions were wrong and have negative outcomes. This displays knowledge and realizations, both Apollonian traits. Bentley embodies both Apollonian and Dionysian characteristics throughout What was I Thinking.

Becky was a beauty from South AlabamaHer Daddy had a hard lock and nine pound hammerThink He even did a little time in the slammerWhat was I thinking? She snuck out one night and met me by the front gateHer daddy came out waving that twelve gageWe tore out the drive, he peppered my tailgateWhat was I thinking?Oh I knew there’d be Hell to pay,But that crossed my mind a little too late!ChorusCuz’ I was thinking ‘bout a little white tank top sitting right there in the middle by meI was thinking about a long kiss man just gotta get goin’ with a night like meWell I know what I was feeling But What was I thinking? But What was I thinking? What was I thinking?By the county line the cops were nipping on our heelsPulled off the road kicked it to 4 wheelShut off the lights, tore through a corn fieldWhat was I thinking?Out the other side she was hollerin’ “Faster!?Took the third road had the radio blastin’Hit the Honky Tonk for a little close dancin’ What was I thinking?Oh I knew there’d be Hell to pay,But that crossed my mind a little too late!ChorusWhen a mountain of a man with a “Born to Kill? tattoo tried to cut in I knocked out his front toothRan outside hood sliding like BulldukeWhat was I thinking?I finally got her home half past too lateHer daddy’s in a lawn chair sittin’ in the drivewayPut it in park as he started my way,What was I thinking?Oh What was I thinking?Oh What was I thinking? And she gave a come and get me grin, And like a bullet we were gone again!ChorusWhat was I thinking?

Marketing Strategy
I. The market
1. Our target market consists of mainly middle-class and high-class women who are looking for a relaxing getaway.
a. The potential customers are mostly located in the United States. Also most customers will live on the west coast because they will have less travel to the resort, but some will be from the west coast.
b. They will want to visit the resort at all times of the year.
c. Most likely they will pay for their stay with credit/debit cards, but cash and check is always an option.
d. Their motivation to stay at the hotel is the desire for excellent service in a relaxing top of the line resort.
2. Currently the market is competitive but with our excellent services and high quality conditions we stand out from other less extravagant resorts.
a. The market is growing because of the increasing stress in women and growing desire for relaxation.
3. We would like to control a largely significant amount of the west coast spa and resort customers and a few east coast customers.
4. There are many marketing risks involved in this resort because our company is more so a luxury than a necessity and if customers can not afford to stay at the resort it will not be a major priority for them.
5. Yes, our company has prepared a marketing budget. Our startup advertising budget is $250,000 and our annual budget will be $100,000.
6. Our service resort and spa will be promoted using our website, flyers, brochures, TV commercials, etc.
a. The customer will be made aware of our resort through our various methods of advertising and promotion.
b. The customers will be inducted into booking a reservation by the gorgeous appeal of the resort and the irresistible quality and services of the resort.
c. Our company will stand out in the crowd because of our high class quality.
d. Free publicity which we can take advantage of is word of mouth.
7. Pricing strategy
a. All of our prices for the treatments, room reservations and classes are provided on our brochure.
b. There will be a few discounts offered such as if a customer books a room they will be allowed complimentary access to classes, the sauna, stream rooms and our private beach.

Persuasive Speech Outline to Complete
General Purpose: to present information about homeschooling
Specific Purpose: to persuade the audience that all children should be socialized in schools
ATTENTION STEP
I. Opening Statement of Interest why should children be confided to their homes to learn material which should be learned in schools? If a child is home schooled they lose major social interaction which their lack of social interaction will hurt them later in life.
A. Reason (s) to Listen Even if you are not homeschooled and you don’t know someone who is, there are many children in the world who have not been able to experience school because they are homeschooled. There is more to school then just the education aspect, but if a child is homeschooled that is the only part of school they experience.
B. Speaker Credibility Through research many government officials have found that homeschooling causes a child to miss out on interaction with people outside the family, cause them to have a difficult time “developing emotionally in a broader world than the parents' 'cloistered' setting", and homeschooling restricts children from having more people in their life to help them if they are having a problem. By confining children later in life if they decided to attend college they will enter being very naive about other people and how different types of people may act. Because of these reasons, in California homeschooling has been banned and children ages 6-18 MUST attend a private/ public fulltime day- school or be tutored by a teacher with teaching credentials.
C. Thesis Statement As a result of homeschooling many children enter college and the work force without the life experiences to socially interact at the same level as their peers.
NEED STEP
II. Statement of Need: It is very important that children should have the experience of schooling amongst peers to help them develop and mold into well rounded adults.
A. Illustration: Their whole life a child may be educated by their parent(s) which may work for the time being but if the child decides to attend college they may have a problem. When entering college, they will be unaware of how other people their age may act. Also they may be naïve and inexperienced in social situations. They will also be very impersonal which could seriously hurt them in life.
B. Ramifications
1. It has been proven that to be a healthy individual one must obtain good emotional, spiritual, physical, mental and social health. By excluding children from their peers in school their social and emotional health is being jeopardized. Children learn so much more in school besides the educational value, they learn about themselves and people in general. They also learn how to work with others and trust other people. School is a place where children can make mistakes and not have to suffer extreme consequences, as they would as an adult.

C. Pointing: Homeschooling is more hurting a child and their emotional and social development than helping them. Homeschooling should only be allowed in severe situations where the child is disabled or cannot attend school for a medical reason.
SATISFACTION STEP
III. Statement of Solution : Banning homeschooling is essential to the health of our children, the future leaders of the world.
A. Explanation of Solution : Parents should not be allowed to home school their children unless there is a medical problem which prevents the student from attending school and in that case the student should have a certified tutor. If the family cannot afford a tutor, one will be provided by the state.
B. Theoretical Demonstration
1. By having children enrolled in schools they then get interaction with other and can learn from and be positively influenced by others.
C. Practical Experience : In California they have successfully implemented restrictions against homeschooling. Also by knowing more people children have more of an opportunity to get help if they need it. And in school they will have a greater chance to learn to develop successfully, emotionally.
D. Meeting Objections
1. Many may protest that they do not want their children to interact with others and learn about things, that the parents want to shelter them from. But in the end what is best for the child must be done.
VISUALIZATION STEP
IV. Restatement of Proposed Solution
A. Negative Visualization: If more states do not develop laws against homeschooling there will be many children each year which do not get the full experience of being a child and growing up. Also many children will learn later in life that they are just not as completive in the work force, because of their restrictions earlier in life.
B. Positive Visualization: if more states do develop laws prohibiting homeschooling then all children will have equal opportunities later in life.
ACTION STEP
V. Restatement and Summary
A. Statement of Specific Action or Attitude Change
B. Statement of Personal Interest
C. Reason to Remember
